Our Pastor & Pastor's Wife
Bro Mark Jordan and his wife Sis Connie Jordan have pastored Riverside Holiness Church since 1989 making them the longest standing pastor of a single church in the Calvary Holiness Association.
Since then, they have faithfully taught the true, Biblical doctrine of the gospel, ministered and prayed for those in need, and provided counseling and good, sound advice for the members of Riverside. Bro Mark and Sis Connie Jordan are kindhearted teachers and leaders and we are proud to call them our pastor.
"And I will give you pastors according to mine own heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding" Jeremiah 3:15.
Articles of Faith
1. There is but one true and living God, the Creator and Preserver of all things in heaven and earth. (Gen.1:1-26).
2. There are three persons in the God head; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. (Matt. 28:19).
3. That Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of the Father; conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead the third day. That He ascended to Heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor for mankind. (St. John 3:16, Matt. 1:18, St. Luke 1:35, St. Mark 16:6, St. Luke 24: 6-7, St. Luke 24:51, Romans 8:34).
4. We believe that the Old and New Testament is the divine inspired word of God and the only rule for Christian Faith. (2nd Tim. 3:16, 2nd Peter 1:21).
5. We believe that all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God, but true believers are elected unto eternal life by repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (1 John 1:10, Romans 3:23-24, Romans 5:1, Romans 5:18, St. John 3:5-7, Acts 13:39, Eph. 2:8).
6. We believe that regeneration is the new birth of the soul; whereby, the believer is justified by that work of grace, when the sinner finds peace with God. Through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the penitent believer is quickened into spiritual life, capable of faith, obedience and love. (Romans 5:1, Romans 5:18, St. John 3:5-7, Acts 13:39, Eph. 2:9).
7. We believe that sanctification is that work of the Holy Spirit, by which the pardoned soul is cleansed through the word of God, from all inherited depravity. It is wrought after the believer makes a full and final consecration to God, and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (St. John 17:17, Heb. 13:12).
8. We believe that immersion is the true mode of baptism, in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Practice it accordingly. (Matt. 3:16, Matt. 28:29, Acts 8:38).
9. We believe in the baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire, with the initial evidence of speaking with other tongues, as the Spirit gives utterance. (Acts 2:4, Acts 2:38, Matt. 3:11).
10. We believe in the operation of the nine gifts of the spirit, and encourage our people to seek to receive these gifts. (1st Cor. 12:1-2).
11. We believe in the Lord's Supper; and the washing of the Saint's feet is an imperative command of the Master. It should be practiced by all believers in Christ. (1st Cor. 11:23-30, St. John 13:5-15).
12. We grow in grace and knowledge of God by attending upon all the ordinances of God, such as: the public worship of God, the ministery of the word either, read or expounded, family and private prayer, fasting, and search of scriptures daily. (2nd Peter 3:18, 2nd Peter 1:5-7, Acts 17:11).
13. We believe in the resurrection of the dead, both the just and the unjust. There will be a general judgement at the end of the world, when God will judge men by Jesus Christ. The righteous will be received into everlasting life, but the wicked into everlasting punishment. (St. John 5:28-29, Heb. 9:27, Acts 10:42, Acts 24:15, Matt. 25:46)
History
In 1921, several women in the Colquitt County area began hosting cottage prayer meetings in their homes. After receiving complaints from neighbors about the noise, they decided to build a brush arbor on West Central Avenue in the small town of Riverside, Georgia. Eventually a church was built to better accommodate weather conditions in 1922. This small building stood for 45 years until the present church was built 1500 feet from where the previous one had been in 1966. In 1977 Riverside joined the Calvary Holiness Association. We continue to hold weekly Sunday school and worship services, monthly youth services, and we support and host revivals annually.
"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Hebrews 10:25
